This antique bamboo cane is beautifully patinated throughout the shaft which is about 35" long with a 4 1/4" handle capped with a sterling silver ferrule. The ferrule is hallmarked with the French word "argent" (silver), 950, and maker's mark C and L in two ovals. This maker (probably French) uses the art nouveau style of vines and flowers, ornately decorating the ferrule. Besides the hallmarking there is a very finely added number by hand. This could be a museum marking and it barely shows without magnification. The shaft of the cane is completely bamboo with a silver tip on the bottom (not sterling). The shaft is in beautiful condition with almost a tortoiseshell effect. The style of the cane and handle is particulary Art Nouveau, approximately 1910. I've looked up French hallmarks and the maker's mark may be from Cincinnatus Lorillon.
